A number of years back, my mom introduced me to one of the greatest Julie Andrews movies ever: The Sound of Music.
Flash forward to last year and finding out that in Salzburg you can see tons of film locations. I patiently waited for the perfect time to go, read beautiful weather and flowers in bloom. At the end of last month the time FINALLY came. I packed my little day tripping bag and was off to see The Sound of Music, Salzburg.
All set for a beautiful Spring day. See that blue sky? Wonderful after the rain and snow of April.
“I have confidence in me…”
“Do Re Me”
Back of the Von Trapp family home.
“I am sixteen going on seventeen, innocent as a rose…”
Location of the wedding.
Hiding away at the church before making their escape.
The tour from Panorama was spectacular. Even if you aren’t a Sound of Music fan or have never seen the movie I highly recommend the tour. The scenery of Salzburg is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen.
The most stunning views I’ve ever seen. Total peace settles upon you when you enter the lake district for the tour.
Let me talk about the food for just a minute. One I have become obsessed with curry wurst. I can’t get enough of this stuff. Every where we go, I try it from the street vendors and this was the best I have had so far. Two I got the wurst and water for 4 € and the ice cream for 1!!! 5€!!! Some the most delicious food I’ve had since moving here (not including the sushi from down the street) and I got it for under $6.
After the tour I did some light exploring with new friends from the tour.
The day ended with reading and people watching in the gardens I started my day at before making the journey back to Stuttgart. One of those days when every detail will stick with you for ever.
Thanks for stopping by today. Have a great day!!!
I LOVE SALZBURG!!! And, of course, it’s because Sound of Music put it on the map! It’s only 2 hours on a direct train from my house, and it’s my favorite day trip! Glad you went on a beautiful day!

Yes it was so beautiful!!! I was there less than 12 hours – less if you count all the time reading in the park lol – and took over 400 photos!!! Blows my mind that such a small place can have so much going for it. LOVE IT!!!!!

What a fun day – I went to Salzburg years ago and didn’t do any Sound of Music exploration. A wasted trip there! It is gorgeous to wander round but would love to do this tour one day. #citytripping

Salzburg is for sure. I was shocked how far my Euros were going. If you ever go to Austria do the tour. It is so much fun and you will learn so much about the movie and the real Von Trapp family.

Melanie, I loved the church where they were hiding out! I also love curry wurst, but have to admit I don’t try it wherever I go. Salzburg is a nice little city. Glad you enjoyed it!

We spent last Christmas in Salzburg hoping for that elusive White Christmas. No luck on that front but I agree it is a magical place.

It is. It’s like a whole other world quietly existing away from the hustle of the more popular tourist locals.
I was hoping so much we would have one of those fabled White Christmas here in Germany. No such luck either.
