I LOVE The Chew. I own the show’s cookbooks and recently acquired Michael Symon’s 5 in 5 books. We did take a few liberties with this recipe (mostly used what pasta we had on hand and cayenne for pepper flakes).
Ingredients (how we made it)
Dry bow tie pasta (this obviously no longer made it a five minute meal, more like 15)
2 Tbsp of olive oil
1/4 of a pound pancetta ripped into strips
1/2 of a cup of panko bread crumbs
Bring water to a boil in a pot
Once boiling add in some salt and the pasta
Cook the bow tie pasta for about 12 minutes stirring occasionally (adjust for whatever pasta you use)
When you have about 3 minutes left heat the oil in a skillet over medium high heat and add the pancetta
Allow it to crisp in the pan (about 1 minute)
Add the garlic powder and cayenne, coating the pancetta in it
Use 1 cup of the pasta water before you drain it
Blend in the pasta with the pancetta adding salt and pepper
Remove from the heat and add the breadcrumbs and cheese stirring together, then serve.
